Quartz Broadcast System
I. INTRODUCTION
A decorative durable system that provides excellent resistance to
wear, staining and chemicals. The blending of coarse and fine quartz aggregate provides a
distinctive appearance suitable for a vast variety of applications. This decorative,
durable seamless system can be non-skid, or smooth texture. It can be applied to most
sound substrate including concrete, plywood, steel decks, ceramic and quarry tile.
II. DESCRIPTION
NI-Dura Quartz Broadcast System shall be a combination of fluid
applied laminates and aggregate forming the seamless flooring system. The membrane system
will be comprised of:
- A. Adhere 101: A two component thermoset, water
soluble, solvent free, odor free, waterproofing, epoxy resin formulation.
- B. NI-21: A two component 100% bisphenol A-type epoxy resin combined wdith a
cycloaliphatic polyamine modified curing agent as binder and top coats. The 100% epoxy
finish coats shall exhibit good amber-free qualities and resistance to ultra violet
attack.
- C. Quartz: #28 grade colored quartz granules.
III. USES
NI Dura Epoxy Seamless Flooring is ideal for heavy commercial, institutional
and industrial areas requiring heavy wear resistance, lasting protection, and acid and
chemical resistance.

VIII. APPLICATION
Provide all components necessary to complete installation.
- A. Prepare and abrade substrate, removing all foreign
materials. (Refer to preparation section)
- Concrete substrate: Fill all cracks and voids with (2) component water based, heavy
bodied 56% epoxy (Adhere 101) and Portland cement. New concrete must be cured a minimum of
28 days, free of sealers, curing compounds, hydrostatic pressure and moisture
transmission. Old concrete must be clean, free from paint, oils, stain, or other foreign
materials that would prevent proper hydration and bonding. Refer to general preparation of
sub-surfaces.
- Wood substrate: Fill seams with (2) component 56% water based epoxy and Portland
cement (Adhere 101). Apply 3" wide fiber tape over all seams.
- Substrate Temperature: Substrate
temperature must be no lower than 50 degrees F., maintained during the installation and
curing period.
- Deteriorating or spalling areas must be filled and
repaired with Northern's Epoxy Mortar System, prior to applying NI-Dura Quartz Trowel
applied flooring system.
- B. Prime Coat
- Coverage: 100 to 120 sq. feet per gallon
- Tools: 3/8" nap roller
- Procedure
- a) Prime entire area with Adhere 101 using 3/8" nap roller
- C. Mix Quartz Aggregate
- Mixing (refer to Quartz Aggregate Product Data Sheet):
- a) After colors are selected, colors and sizes should be pre-blended dry for entire job
or area to insure uniformity and color.
- D. Mix NI-21 100% Epoxy
- Mix: (2) parts resin to (1) part curing agent.
- E. First Broadcast Coat
- Coverage: approximately 100-150 sq. ft. per gallon
- Tools: 3/8" inch nap roller, roller tray
- Procedure
- a) Apply NI-21 100% Epoxy formulation with 3/8" inch nap roller
- b) Broadcast #28 Quartz into wet NI-21 100% Epoxy making sure all wet spots are soaked
up.
- (1) Coverage of Quartz: 2 sq. ft. per lb.
- c) Allow First Broadcast Coat to dry
- F. Sweep off excess Quartz
- G. Second Broadcast Coat
- Coverage: approximately 100-150 sq. ft. per gallon
- Tools
- Procedure
- a) Apply NI-21 100% Epoxy
- b) Broadcast #28 Quartz as Second Broadcast.
- H. Sweep off excess Quartz
- I. Finish Coats
- Apply two (2) finish coats of Ni-21 100% Epoxy, allowing each coat to dry.
- Finish coats may be adjusted to meet non-skid requirements. If polyurethane finish
coat is requested over the NI-21 Epoxy, it is recommended that the surface be tack ragged:
clean with a damp cloth of Polyurethane thinner to assure proper bonding by removing
possible amine residue.
IX. PACKAGING
- NI-21 100% Epoxy is packaged in kit form: 9-gallon kit; 15-gallon kit; 55-gallon
drums.
- Adhere 101: available
in 10 gallon kits only
- Quartz aggregate: Packed and shipped in 50 lb. four-ply
bags
X. STORAGE
- A. Store material in dry area.
- B. Keep from freezing.
- C. Prevent damage to containers
- D. Do not store for long periods in direct sunlight.
- E. Protect from the environment or potential damage by other trades.
